Honoring the King of Nordic Noir

Today, a giant of the Nordic Noir genre died of cancer at 67.  Besides being a brilliant writer of my favorite detective stories, the Wallander series, he was also a reflective, philosophical person. I was surprised to hear in the obit on NPR that he also had participated in one of the ships that attempted to breach Israel’s blockage of Gaza. Very impressive.

The Wallander series has endured for decades with a worldwide following.  Even Wallander’series ring tone is in demand. There’be been three leading stars in the detective role of Kurt Wallander.  My absolute favorite whom I think best captures Wallander’s sensitive, intelligent and brooding character is Krister Henriksson.

I first saw the series on MHz Networks. http://www.mhznetworks.org.  I highly recommend these programs for the amazing character development, acting, plots and glimpses of Swedish culture and scenery.Henning Mankell
